Tennis legend Roger Federer recently shared his thoughts on the doping controversy involving Jannik Sinner. The Italian tested positive twice for a banned substance (clostebol) but avoided a ban, causing a stir in the tennis world. Many top players criticized the International Tennis Integrity Agency for what they saw as double standards.

During the US Open, Federer told today.com that he believes Sinner did not knowingly take the banned substance. Sinner had explained that the contamination happened when his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi, used a spray containing clostebol on a cut. Naldi then massaged Sinner’s hand without wearing gloves, leading to the positive tests.

I think we all trust pretty much that Jannik didn’t do anything, but the inconsistency potentially that he didn’t have to sit out while they weren’t 100% sure what was going on, I think that’s the question that needs to be answered. It’s not something we want to see in our sport, these types of news, regardless if he did something or not, or any player did. It’s just noise that we don’t want.

Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, has spoken about how tough the situation has been for Sinner. He stated that the Italian has had to deal with the stress of a legal battle while still competing in tournaments. Cahill pointed out that Sinner’s team could afford legal and scientific help, unlike many lower-ranked players.

But look, it is what it is, and we need to trust the process as well of anyone involved here.

Sinner has now reached the quarterfinals in all four Grand Slam tournaments this year, a rare achievement since 2000. This consistency has resulted in him gaining the World No.1 ranking for the first time in his career.

The World No. 1 is expecting a tough physical battle with Medvedev in the quarterfinals. He opined that it would also be a mental battle when the two take to the court.

Tough match. It's going to be a lot of rallies, so hopefully I'll be ready physically. It's going to be a physical match, also a mental match. I won in Australia, he then won in Wimbledon. That was five sets. So hopefully it's going to be a good match. We'll try to do our best on court, hopefully you guys enjoy the next one and then we'll see how it goes.
Jannik Sinner said in his post-match interview

Sinner and Medvedev are the only two Grand Slam winners left in the US Open. They last met at Wimbledon, where Medvedev won in five sets. Sinner, however, defeated Medvedev to claim his Australian Open title earlier this year.
