Find Out: Roger Federer’s schedule for the Clay and Grass season
Roger Federer made a much-awaited return in Doha earlier this year after a gap of 13 months because of knee surgeries. He wasn’t comfortable on court at the Qatar Open and was knocked out in the quarter-final.
Due to lack of performance, the Swiss maestro decided to skip further tournaments and solely focus on recovery and training. He had earlier said that he is focusing the most on Tokyo Olympics and Wimbledon for the 2021 season. And hence he will play just two events on Clay this season.
Federer hasn’t competed professionally on Clay for almost 2 years having missed the entire last season. He was initially to play at the Madrid Masters and kick start his Clay season but now has decided to give himself a couple more weeks to train.
Roger Federer to play both at Roland Garros and Wimbledon
Roger Federer will play the ATP 250 Geneva Open at home before playing at the French Open. Federer isn’t particularly targeting to go deep on Clay but would want to get that all important match practice. The Geneva Open is scheduled from 16th to 22nd May 2021 while the French Open will be played from 30th May-13th June.
His focus will then shift straight away to his favorite Grass season. He will play at Halle for the Noventi Open as a buildup to The Championships, Wimbledon. The ATP 500 event at Halle will begin from 14th June while Wimbledon will commence from 28th June.
Federer’s schedule:
▪Gonet Geneva Open : 16-22 May
▪ROLAND-GARROS : 30 May – 13 June
▪Noventi Open : 14-20 June
▪Wimbledon : 28 June – 11 July
Federer will want to win his 21st Slam at Wimbledon and follow it up with an Olympic Gold at Tokyo. Given his experience, the fans expect him to make a strong comeback and compete at the highest level with the likes of Nadal and Djokovic.
