American tennis player, Noah Rubin has stated that Swiss great Roger Federer has set a bar of high standards ”for his personality” which is out of reach for ”World No 1 Novak Djokovic”.

Federer is definitely one of the most popular sportsmen of all time. Whichever tennis court he enters, it is clear from the start of the match that the crowd loves him. Besides, Novak Djokovic [being one of his most potential rivals] has tried to match Federer’s on-court achievements but has been often left frustrated at failing to match his global popularity.

Speaking on the Tennis Major podcast Match Point, Rubin said, “Over the years, whether it is because of being the fan-favorite or something else, Roger Federer has created this persona.”

Rubin also referred to the incident that occurred during the 2015 Australian Open final in which the Serb was criticized for falling to the floor and limping between points. His opponent Andy Murray was not amused by it at all and later claimed that he was distracted by it all.

“I think a lot of fans also remember Novak Djokovic and his scandal about faking an injury and other things he started, for which he got a PR team to build him up from those positions. There’s some mistakes that Djokovic has made. Federer has as well but at different levels. I think at this point, they are on different pedestals.” Rubin said.

Further, Rubin talked about how it becomes necessary for Djokovic to tackle the media, and, on the other hand, Roger Federer has built a personality that no one questions him.

“I do think that Djokovic has to fight what the media is saying. But Federer has built this from the ground up, he has worked very hard. Federer was a racket-throwing 18-year-old that turned into this perfect persona, that despite making a few mistakes, has upheld those high standards.” Rubin concluded.
