Dinesh Karthik recalled the maiden fifty posted by the Hitman- Rohit Sharma with his bat in the 2007 T20 World cup which was held in South Africa. Those were initial period of the glorious era which the Indian cricket in currently cherishing with, as India not only won it’s maiden T20 world cup but also found many young talents who now pose to be the elemental part of the Indian team. Rohit Sharma was one of those who found his way to become the permanent asset of the Men in blue.

Dinesh Karthik recalls the day on which Rohit sharma scored his maiden International fifty against South Africa in the T20 World Cup at Kingsmead in Durban. He also revealed an interesting fact about the bat which the Hitman played with. Previously Dinesh Karthik was dismissed for a duck playing with the same bat by Shaun Pollock in the fifth over. So he had his own apprehensions over the bat, but Rohit Sharma went on to play with the same bat.

“His first-ever international fifty was with my bat. I am very proud of that. Yeah, I was batting with it, I told Rohit, ‘What a s*** bat’ and he said, ‘What? You think this bat is not good enough? Give it to me,” Karthik was quoted as saying in a conversation with Gaurav Kapoor on the show Breakfast with Champions.

“So I gave it to him. That day (need to give him credit) he just walked in straight with the bat in South Africa during World cup and he played amazing innings. No credit to my bat, obviously the batsman but still. I remember all those kinds of things and these kinds of things mean a lot to me,” he added.

Rohit Sharma went on to reach half century of 40 balls 7 fours and 2 sixer. He was supportive along with Dhoni who contributed 45 of 33 balls which and together they stitched an 85 run partnership which helped India post a competitive score of 153 on board. This score to be too good for the Proteas as they were bundled up with 116 for nine in 20 overs. Rohit was adjudged the Man of the match and then the middle order batsman upgraded himself to become the most feared opener in the present days, hope Dinesh Karthik’s bat did the magic.
