The Indian Premier League (IPL) season of 2021 kicked off today at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) faced Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). It was RCB who won the toss on the night, choosing to field first. RCB fielded a completely new-look side compared to the teams that they chose in last season’s IPL in the UAE.
MI on the other hand stuck with more or less their preferred line-up with the exception of two debuts – opener Chris Lynn due to Quinton de Kock‘s unavailability and Marco Jansen, the young South African pacer. RCB on the other hand had four debutants – Rajat Patidar, Dan Christian, Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson.
Rohit Sharma falls to Virat Kohli’s throw

The MI openers Chris Lynn and skipper Rohit Sharma began in steady fashion as they had a good look at the pitch to get their eye in. It was the latter who started to open up as he hit a terrific chipped six off Yuzvendra Chahal‘s bowling. However, his stay at the crease was short-lived after a horrible mix-up with Lynn. The Aussie had hit a cut shot in between the fielders at point and cover.
Rohit at the non-striker’s end set off for a run. Lynn on the other hand, was ball watching and did not see his partner charging towards the striker’s end. By the time, Rohit tried to return, it was too late. RCB skipper Virat Kohli delivered a perfect throw to Chahal at the bowler’s end who dislodged the stumps. By the time that happened, Rohit had already given up his hopes of returning to the crease.
