Rohit was a big draw in IPL 2008 auction. A capped player and a member of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning team, Deccan Chargers (DC) spent big bucks and roped him in for Rs 3 crore. Rohit received the same amount for the next two years but DC decided against retaining any player for IPL 2011. And Rohit was back under the hammer for the second time. While Rohit wasn’t able to fulfil the promise at the highest level – from 2007 to 2013 – he was still one of the most sought after players in IPL. The Indians made the winning bid and bought him for a whopping Rs 9.2 crore.

Rohit rewarded the team management’s faith and has been with MI since then. In IPL 2012 and 2013, Rohit received Rs 9.2 crore per year. And in 2014, his price went up to 12.5 crores as he was the first-choice retained player ahead of the auction. Rohit drew the cheque for the next three seasons before the BCCI increased the price of the first-choice retained player. Rohit was retained by MI for Rs 15 crore.
