The World No.5 has arguably enjoyed the best start ever to the clay season in his relatively short career. The Greek kicked off with a stunning title win in Monte Carlo, and immediately followed that up by reaching the finals of Barcelona, where he was one point away from winning consecutive titles on the dirt. Although he was upset by Casper Rudd in the pre-quarters of Madrid Masters last week, the 22-year-old enters his tournament as one of the top contenders. Tsitsipas is playing great confidence, attacking opponents at every given opportunity. He has a staggering 10-2 win/loss record on clay in 2021.

On the other hand, the 32-year-old veteran comes into this tournament having played a handful number of games on the clay. Despite getting knocked out early in Monte Carlo, he managed to reach the semis of Estoril last month, before Cameron Norrie downed him in two sets. The lanky Croat didn’t show up in Madrid, but managed to beat the mercurial, Alexander Bublik in three sets in the opening round in Rome. Cilic has 4 wins to 2 loses on the dirt this season.

The Greek is in fine form this season, especially on the clay. He appears to be more confident of his game and the movement on the dirt. While the Croat can come up with flashes of brilliance too, it is tough to see him bothering his younger opponent for longer periods. Expect Tsitsipas to sail through this.

Match Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas should win in two sets.
