Romelu Lukaku broke number of records during the quarter-final 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League last night.

The Belgian goal machine Romelu Lukaku also scored his 31st goal in all competition after Nicolo Barella opened the scoring for Inter.

With that tally Lukaku joined Samuel Eto’o (scored 37 goals in 2010-11 season) as the first Inter striker to score more than 30 goals in single campaign.

Leverkusen pulled one back 24 minutes in when Samir Handanovic’s shaky goalkeeping allowed Kai Havertz’s rasping shot to rocket it into the roof of the net to make it 2-1.

Lukaku showed great physical strength after holding Edmond Tapsoba before finding the back of the net.

Lukaku Records in the 2019-20 campaign:

  • This has enabled him the Belgian to score in nine consecutive Europa League or UEFA Cup matches breaking Alan Shearer’s (8) record held in 2005.
  • Lukaku in his first season at San Siro also broke the club record of being the first player to score in six straight European league games.
  • Lukaku is already celebrating his career’s highest goal scoring season, surpassing the 27 goals he netted for Manchester United in the 2017-18 season.
  • In the Serie A win against Genoa last month, the Belgian scored a brace which equalled Stefano Nyers 70-year-old record of scoring most number of away goals (15).

Inter Milan would now take on Shakhtar Donetsk or FC Basel in the semi-finals for their run to their 4th Europa League title.
