Ronda Rousey is considered one of the most influential MMA fighters to ever grace the Octagon. Rousey however has been in the spotlight for quite some time now. This comes after she revealed that she was the ultimate victim and was unfairly criticized after a couple of tough losses. But according to one Jimmy Smith, “Rowdy” was the actual bully behind the scenes.
Veteran broadcaster, Jimmy Smith went scorched earth on Rousey this week. He reacted to her recent complaints about the lack of support from media members like Joe Rogan. Smith claimed the former bantamweight queen was an outright terror to deal with for production staffers. He recounted how he’s heard firsthand tales of Rousey’s dismal attitude from crew members tasked with interviewing the ex-champ.
Everybody behind the scenes that had to put a mic on Ronda Rousey couldn’t stand her. I said why? They said ‘She was a b**** to us from the moment she sat down, to the moment she got up’. Like it’s our fault that she has to do this interview…They were cheering when she got knocked out, that’s what I was told. While Smith acknowledged Rousey’s in-cage greatness, he took major issue with her playing the victim card amid struggles with concussion issues and losses. He accused Rousey of seeking all the credit for successes while deflecting blame for failures onto vague circumstances.
Smith’s tirade painted an ugly picture of the way Rousey conducted herself during her UFC run. The rant certainly provides an unfiltered perspective that contradicts Rousey’s stance as an unfairly vilified figure.
Ronda Rousey berates Joe Rogan for turning on her
Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey took aim at podcast host Joe Rogan. She accused him of turning on her after her fighting career unraveled. Rousey was once an unstoppable force in the UFC’s women’s bantamweight division. She dominated her early opponents with her fierce “armbar” submission move. Rogan enthusiastically praised her skills and accomplishments during that meteoric rise.
However, Rousey’s fortunes changed after a shocking knockout loss to Holly Holm in 2015. Another devastating defeat to Amanda Nunes followed a year later. Her aura of invincibility shattered, and the adulation from fans and media alike quickly faded. This is what she said in a recent interview about the MMA Media:
It was really disappointing to see how happily everybody turned on me and how people like Joe Rogan, who were crying in the ring about the honor of being able to call my fights, people I considered friends in the media so quickly turned on meRonda Rousey via The Chris Cuomo Project
The negative shift after her losses came with a silver lining though, as per Rousey. It helped her separate self-worth from external perception. The former fighter seemed at peace with her place in the sport’s history. While the glory days didn’t last, she achieved more than most critics could dream of.
