On Thursday, Rory McIlroy made his first start of the 2025 PGA Tour season. Participating at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he made his second career ace at the par-3 15th hole. After the round he admitted to be feeling “pretty fortunate”.
When it comes to luck, McIlroy has had a mix of it. Last season he won twice on the PGA Tour but also suffered a heartbreaking loss at the U.S. Open. He later went on to win the DP World Tour Championship in December.
The 4-time major champion played the back-nine holes first during the first on Thursday. At the 15th hole, McIlroy was 1-under for the event having made a birdie at the 12th hole after two pars to start the round.
At the 119-yard hole his shot would fall right down the hole. Instead of bouncing around and then rolling in, the ball went straight into the cup which left the North Irish golfer stunned.

This is now Rory McIlroy‘s second-ever hole-in-one on the PGA Tour. His first came in 2023 at the Travelers Championship. During the first round of the event, his shot would land around 15 feet away from the hole before rolling in the hole.
This is now the sixth ace at this par-3 15th hole at the Spyglass Hill course at Pebble Beach. The last one came in 2023 from the club of Justin Rose. He later went on to win the event. McIlroy went on to shoot 6-under 66 in the first round and will be looking to repeat history just like Rose did.
Rory McIlroy’s Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry also makes ace at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
A hole-in-one or ace taking place in a golf event is considered a significant feat. Two aces happening in a single day is something rare. During the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, two aces were recorded as after Rory McIlroy, his Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry made a hole-in-one.
Lowry’s ace came at the par-3 7th hole at the Pebble Beach Links Golf Course. His wedge shot from 113 yards would land nearly 25 feet away from the hole before rolling in and dropping into the cup.

This was Lowry’s third hole in one of his career. He previously made an ace at TPC Sawgrass a the par-3 17th hole during the Players Championship in 2022. He also made an ace at Augusta National’s historic par-3 16th hole during the final round of the 2016 Masters tournament.
Lowry and McIlroy, the defending Zurich Classic of New Orleans Champions, are T8 following their opening round scores of 66. There are currently six players who are T2 with a score of 7-under 65, one shot behind leader Russell Hanley, who shot 8-under 64.
