Rory McIlroy and Team Europe once again reigned supreme over Team USA at the Ryder Cup. The visitors defeated the Americans 15-13 to retain the trophy. After the win, McIlroy sounded off on the behavior of the fans at the Bethpage Black course and condemned it.

The crowd in New York was expected to get rowdy. Team Europe’s captain, Luke Donald, had been preparing his team with Virtual Reality (VR) headsets to get them ready to tackle the heckling.

McIlroy, the 5-time major champion, was one who faced a lot of taunts. The reigning Masters champion started to get trolled even before the competition had begun. After blading one of his shots during the practice session, the Northern Irishman was trolled by the fans.

On Friday, there were some heavy words thrown against him. The former World No.1 would hit back by flipping off some of them. During the Saturday morning session, he would drop an F-bomb while yelling at some spectators.

The behavior would hit a new low on Saturday after McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll was hit by a beer. A fan from the stands would snatch a cup of beer from another fan’s hand and throw it at Stoll. It would hit her in the hat and she would turn around in shock. Check out a video regarding that below:

He would also face some abusive comments regarding his divorce saga and his 2024 U.S. Open collapse. While speaking to the media after their win, the golfer did not hold back and claimed what happened was not acceptable.

I don’t think we should ever accept that in golf. I think golf should be held to a higher standard than what was seen out there this week. Golf has the ability to unite people. Golf teaches you very good life lessons. It teaches you etiquette. It teaches you how to play by the rules. It teaches you how to respect people. Sometimes this week we didn’t see that.

The 36-year-old later went on to claim that the fans should have made more voice in support of their players instead of heckling them. He pointed out that he heard less noise for Scottie Scheffler and more words for him.

The two top players in the world rankings went head-to-head in the singles match on Sunday. Scheffler would emerge victorious and win with a 1UP score to earn a point for his team.

While being paired up with Tommy Fleetwood during the foursomes matchup against Harris English and Colin Morikawa, the World No.2 would yell “shut the f*** up” to some fans. A reporter would ask how he felt after yelling and then stiffing the ball to two feet. The golfer would proceed to drop a 3-word reaction.

Fleetwood would later join in and claimed that it was not stiff and that he had to putt it. This led to huge laughter among the team during the press conference.

The two golfers won 3&2 against the duo of Morikawa and English on Saturday. On Friday, they had dominated this duo and won 5&4.

McIlroy’s dream of winning an away Ryder Cup is now complete. The golfer will now be looking for a 3-peat in 2027 in Ireland.
