Rory McIlroy has been in stunning form this year. The Northern Irish golfer finally won the Masters Tournament this year and completed the career grand slam. At the ongoing Truist Championship, the 5-time major champion made a candid remark on how his game had improved after distancing himself from golf politics.

The 36-year-old was previously part of the PGA Tour policy board. He was one of the 6 player-directors of the tour and worked behind the scenes as well. Apart from that, he was once also a huge critic of LIV Golf and kept them slamming on several occasions.

In November 2023, McIlroy would leave the PGA Tour policy board for personal reasons and was replaced by 3-time Jordan Spieth. At the start of 2024, he started to change his stance towards LIV Golf and extended an olive branch.

While there had been reports of him shockingly returning to the policy board in May 2024, the golfer declined and decided to remain out of politics. During the press conference at the ongoing Truist Championship, a reporter would ask McIlroy whether stepping from those debates had helped him. The 5-time major nodded his head in approval.

I think so. Certainly not involved too much in the politics of everything, and even just not being involved with even the you know, being on the board of this Tour and just talking about changes to the Tour Championship and all that, like I have no idea what’s going on. I think at this point, I don’t care.

Rory McIlroy said

McIlroy admitted that he had no idea what was going in the business at the moment, He further expressed that he was “happy” where he is now but did call being part of the Tour policy board as a “good experience.”

At the moment, the PGA Tour policy board comprises Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Joe Oglive, Camilo Villegas, Webb Simpson, and Adam Scott. This 7 work behind-the-scenes, along with Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan.

With my dad, like I never get that emotional with my dad. It was great. It was great to see him. Then when I saw my mom, I yeah, we were both a mess for a few minutes.
