Rory McIlroy is once again facing the heat of golf fans for his actions during Round 2 of the U.S. Open. The 5-time major champion would throw his club and smash a tee box in frustration as he tried to make the cut.
The Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania is turning out to be a difficult place, just as many had predicted. McIlroy, the reigning Masters Champion, started the day with 2 double bogeys through the first three holes.
While he did manage to bounce back later on, there were some moments when he lost his cool. At the par-5 12th hole, the Northern Irish golfer tossed away his golf club with both of his hands after the second shot.

He went to make par at this hole. After making a birdie on the 16th hole, he arrived at the 17th hole, hoping to keep the momentum going.
However, his first shot at the 17th hole did not work out as he imagined. After seeing the trajectory of his ball, McIlroy smashed the tee box on this hole with his club and broke it.

Ever since winning the Masters Tournament, McIlroy’s form has taken a dip. He would struggle at the PGA Championship and finish T47 in that event. A week ago, he would miss the cut at the RBC Canadian Open, which led to him admitting that he was concerned about this major championship.
Rory McIlroy once again refused to speak to the media after the round
Another day, another occasion where Rory McIlroy refused to speak to the media. For a second day running at the U.S. Open, the golfer refused to talk to the reporters after the round and walked out of the course.

This is something that McIlroy has done a lot recently. During the PGA Championship, he refused to speak to the media on all 4 days, which led to huge backlash from several fans.
As per reports from Golf Digest, McIlroy would drop a 3-word reaction when a USGA official came to him and asked about his media availability.
No, I’m good.

At the RBC Canadian Open press conference, McIlroy broke his silence regarding not speaking to the media. He expressed that he was “pissed” off and did not want to say something that he would later regret.
Unlike the other professional sporting leagues, golfers are not obliged to speak to the reporters after a round. So, they technically can refuse to answer any questions without facing any sort of fines.
