McIlroy entered the final round on Sunday with a 2-shot lead. Despite slipping up on some occasions during the round, he bounced back strongly every time. After missing a 5 feet par putt, he forced a playoff against Justin Rose.

In the first playoff hole, Rose made par while McIlroy made a birdie. This clinched him his first Masters win and made him just the 6th golfer to win all four major championships.

On Wednesday, the now 5-time major champion shared an emotional video of his journey at the Augusta National on X. The video started off with his previous failures in this course. It then highlighted his performance throughout the tournament.

Never give up on your dreams. Keep coming back. Keep working hard.

Rory McIlroy’s Masters win brings huge increase in PGA Tour viewership

The biggest storyline of the Masters Tournament this year was whether Rory McIlroy could get the job done this year. Having already won twice this season, the pressure was on him to deliver. The 35-year-old was able to live up to the expectations as he clinched the green jacket. His victory was also a huge win in the viewership department for the PGA Tour.

According to reports from Sports Business Journal’s Josh Carpenter, the final round of the Masters Tournament saw a 33 per cent increase from last year’s viewership. It drew in 12.7 million viewers. This number peaked up to 19.5 million from 7 to 7:15 pm.

As McIlroy made golfing history, this turned out to be the most-watched Masters event since 2018 when Patrick Reed took home the green jacket. As per the report, it was also the most-streamed golf event on Paramount+ and the largest non-NFL sports day.

The 2025 Masters Tournament was also one of the strongest without the presence of Tiger Woods. The 15-time major champion has brought in huge viewership over the years for the PGA Tour with his play. This year he missed the event as he ruptured his Achilles while trying to get in shape.

This week, the PGA Tour action turns towards the RBC Heritage. The fifth signature event of the season will see some of the top names jostling again for glory. Last year, McIlroy entered this event alongside his longtime friend Shane Lowry. The All-Irish duo took home the title by beating Chad Ramsey and Martin Trainer on the first extra hole of the playoff.

As per the PGA Tour website, McIlroy will play in this event. He will once again team with Lowry and enter the event as the defending champions and look to defend their title. This tournament is the only official team event on the PGA Tour.

After a few more non-elevated and signature events, the golfers will turn their attention to the Quail Hollow Club for the PGA Championship. McIlroy has a good record in this course and will be hoping to add another win here next month.
