Rudy Gobert becomes the first center in the history of modern NBA to get a contract extension worth $205 Million. The Utah Jazz defender has been named the Defensive Player of the Year for multiple seasons and is by every means as good as the other higher paid defenders in the league. However, Gobert is not the only one who has got a massive contract extension with the Utah Jazz.

Even Donovan Mitchell has got a whopping contract extension by the franchise. Although Gobert is not the most attacking defender in the league. So, is his salary cap justified? As per many fanatics Utah Jazz has clearly overpaid their marquee player Rudy Gobert. But honestly, what choice did they have?

Utah Jazz heavily depends on their draft picks. Having picked Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Gordon Hayward and Deron Williams in the draft. The latter two moved their way out of the franchise in the first instance they had. Hayward signed an offer sheet from the Boston Celtics, and Williams forced his way out by demanding a trade to the New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets.

Whether the Jazz can become champions by locking so much money into Gobert is a whole other question. They can always use him later to trade him, but this seems like a permanent move. Congratulations to Gobert for getting paid the way he has. Hopefully, he can help this team make a genuine leap to title contention.

The upcoming season is just days away, hopefully this has given a lot of confidence to Gobert to perform at his best. But time will tell how far the Utah Jazz are able to reach in this new season.
