Ryan Clark brought the spirit of DC & RC to the latest episode of Good Guy / Bad Guy. Clark recently talked about the BMF title and what would happen if Aljamain Sterling fought for the said title. It seems like Clark is not keen to see Sterling fight Max Holloway anytime soon.
Ryan Clark recently sat down for a conversation with Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen. During the episode on the ESPN MMA YouTube Channel, Cormier suggested that what Aljamain Sterling did at UFC 300 is a sign of a true BMF. Clark replied:
It is, D.C. It’s a ‘boring motherf-er. That’s what that is. That’s what the BMF would stand for if Aljamain Sterling was the new BMF champion.Ryan Clark on Good Guy / Bad Guy
According to Clark, BMF title fights should strictly be striking fights where two fighters just go at each other. Clark does not want any grappling or wrestling in BMF title fights. He even suggested that such a clause should be written into the contracts.
Clark brought up the potential matchup between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway and how Topuria wants the BMF belt integrated into their catchup if he fought Holloway. Clark sees Topuria going for a takedown attempt against Holloway if he cannot par with him in striking. However, Chael Sonnen pointed out that though he agrees with what Clark said in reality the Commission would not agree to put such a clause into a fighter’s contract.
Aljamain Sterling fighting Alexander Volkanovski in featherweight?
Aljamain Sterling moved up the weight class to fight Calvin Kattar at UFC 300. Now that he made his way up to featherweight, he revealed something interesting about fighting the former champion. According to Aljamain Sterling, he could have potentially fought Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title.
Sterling said Dana White told him that if he had beat Sean O’Malley at UFC 292 last year he would have set him up with Volkanovski at 145. He went on to say that the version that fought Sean O’Malley was not the best version of him. Aljo believes he now has the size, strength, and skill set to compete against Volkanovski.
However, Sterling is set to fight Brian Ortega by the looks of it. Meanwhile, Volk is preparing for a rematch to make his comeback into the division. Both fighters are ultimately preparing for a title shot and it will be interesting to see when their paths cross in the division.
