It’s hard to process that only a few months ago Ryan Williams was playing high school football for Saraland High School in Alabama. On Saturday, he bamboozled one of the best defenses in college, the Georgia Bulldogs.

The five-star recruit and Mr. Alabama committed to the Crimson Tide ahead of the 2024 college football season and is currently one of the youngest players in Division One football with 17. He did the unthinkable, all in front of Donald Trump inside a packed Bryant Denny Stadium.

Bama dominated the game early on, but Georgia came back and even took the lead with minutes left until the final whistle. Then quarterback Jalen Milroe found his young teammate.

On 1st & 10, Milroe threw a dot to an open Ryan Williams. At first glance, it seemed the pass would be limited to just a first down because two Georgia players blocked his path, but Williams had other ideas.

Football fans can’t believe 17-year-old Ryan Williams made a mockery out of Georgia defenders

After receiving the ball, Williams spun 360’ flat-footing the Bulldogs’ defensive back, Julain Humphrey. The second corner, KJ Bolden, who rushed over to narrow the angel, smashed into Humphrey as Williams took off for a 75-yard touchdown.

Williams’ speed, awareness, and body control are similar to those of an elite wide receiver and not of someone who has only played three college football games before Saturday. Naturally, fans on social media couldn’t keep their emotions to themselves.

Ryan Willaims finished the game with 6 catches for 177 yards and 1 touchdown. Head coach Kalen DeBoer praised the true freshman, who will not turn 18 until February 2025.

What impresses me [even] more is what he’s doing after the catch… When you practice every day against each other and have a couple scrimmages, you get a few chances, but he’s doing it repeatedly, getting the ball in his hands and making people miss, resulting in a lot of yards after the catch and after contact. He’s a special player.

Bama continues to strike gold, and Williams will become even more polished as the seasons go by. Perhaps the heir to DeVonta Smith. After four games for the Crimson Tide, Ryan Williams has 16 catches for 462 yards (28.9 yards per catch) and 5 touchdowns.
