Unlike the Georgia game, Ryan Williams failed to stop an Alabama loss despite showing flashes of brilliance here and there against the Vanderbilt defense. It only proves the level of maturity Williams possesses, even though he has only played four college football games before facing the Commodores on Saturday.
As Bama trailed by nine points deep in the third quarter, quarterback Jalen Milroe targeted Williams from 3rd & 7. Milroe accurately placed the ball just on top of the shoulder of Williams, who grabbed the ball and cushioned his landing with the help of a Vanderbilt player.
Yet the remarkable part happened after he touched the green turf. When it looked certain that Williams would go out of bounds, he kept balance and stayed inside the line as another Vandy defender charged in. Despite the room closing in, he set off the afterburners and raced to score a 58-yard touchdown, closing the gap to just two points heading into the last 15 minutes.

Vanderbilt restored their 12-point cushion—first from a 33-yard field goal from Brock Taylor and then a 6-yard catch from tight end Kamrean Johnson.
Williams scored his second touchdown on the night with just over two minutes until the final whistle. Milroe faked a jet sweep to his running back and laid the ball off to the 17-year-old freshman, who ran across the backfield to score a two-yard touchdown.

The Crimson Tide managed to sneak within five points, but a comeback wasn’t on the cards. Vanderbilt defeated their SEC rivals for the first time since 1984. Ryan Williams ended the game with 3 receptions for 82 yards (27.33 YPC) and 1 receiving touchdown, along with 1 rushing touchdown.
Is Ryan Williams related to Serena Williams?
Williams was a five-star recruit coming out of Saraland High School in Alabama. Following his breakout game against Georgia, in which he recorded 6 catches for 177 yards (29.5 YPC) and scored 1 touchdown, tennis legend Serena Williams gave a shoutout on X (previously Twitter).

Fans genuinely believed they were cousins because of their last name. So far, there hasn’t been any clear proof of whether they are related or not.
Regardless, Williams is going through a memorable first year in college. After five games, he has 19 catches for 544 yards and 6 receiving touchdowns. Up next, Alabama will face South Carolina.
