The preparations for the Ryder Cup are underway. This year, Team Europe and Team USA will lock horns at the Bethpage Course in New York. Ahead of this event, Team USA got trolled on social media for selling Ryder Cup T-shirts with a silhouette resembling Rory McIlroy.

To get the fans excited for the biennial tournament, Team USA would launch a new T-shirt. In a post shared by the X account NUCLR Golf, the tees sold by the American team are priced at $65.

The t-shirt features a silhouette of a golfer, with the words “USA RYDER CUP 2025” in the USA’s red, white, and blue colors. The silhouette, however, appears to be a spitting image of McIlroy. Check out that post from X below:

The issue in this is that McIlroy is one of the top performers for Team Europe, the opponents of Team USA in this event. The 5-time major champion was the first player from the European side to qualify for the event following an impressive campaign.

This year, the American apparel is once again designed by Ralph Lauren. In August, it was announced that they would continue their partnership with the PGA of America. This year marks the 7th time that they are the Official Outfitter of the United States Ryder Cup Team.

Rory McIlroy adds huge momentum to his game for Ryder Cup with Irish Open victory

Rory McIlroy picked up his 20th DP World Tour win on Sunday. The Northern Irish golfer took down Joakim Lagergren in the playoff round of the 2025 Amgen Irish Open and added some huge momentum to his game before the Ryder Cup showdown with Team USA.

McIlroy started the year strongly and picked up 3 wins in 3 months. Following triumphs at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship, the World No.2 claimed the Masters Tournament in April to complete the career grand slam.

Since then, his form had dipped a bit. McIlroy himself admitted that he had lost some motivation following his win at the Masters.

Last week, he was playing in front of his home fans at The K Club in Kildare, Ireland. After a disappointing first round, the golfer bounced back into contention with scores of 66 and 68 on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

In the final round, he came back from behind. On the 72nd hole of the tournament, the 36-year-old made a huge eagle putt to force a playoff round, which led to a massive roar from the crowd. He eventually took down Lagergren in the third playoff hole to claim his 4th win of the year and his first since the Masters triumph in April.

This win comes at a perfect time for McIlroy as he gears up for a massive battle against Team USA. While speaking with the reporters after his win, the former World No.1 claimed he was happy with his game at the moment.

McIlroy will now turn his attention towards the Wentworth Course in England for the BMW PGA Championship this week. A few of his Ryder Cup teammates are also playing in this event before getting on the plane for New York.
