On 30th December, 2014, Indian Test captain MS Dhoni shocked the cricketing world as he announced his retirement from the longest format. He announced it after drawing the Boxing Day Test match and handed over captaincy to Virat Kohli

For years, fans wondered what made MS Dhoni retire from Test cricket, especially midway through the 2014/15 Border Gavaskar Trophy. Now it looks like the question has been answered, with an old video of his wife going viral.

In the video, Sakshi Dhoni revealed that she asked her husband to give up one format, especially during her pregnancy. She backed her request by claiming the Indian legend would not be able to spend time and enjoy with the child. He ended up retiring from Tests two months after his daughter, Ziva, was born.

I remember, I even told him if you want a child you should step down from at least one format of cricket because you have no time. How will you enjoy your child?

Dhoni ended up missing the birth of Ziva as he was captaining India in the 2015 ODI World Cup. He stepped down from captaincy in 2017, handing the reins over to Virat Kohli. Dhoni played his last international match in 2019, but continues to play in the Indian Premier League.

His friend, Paramjit Singh, recently gave an update regarding Dhoni’s career. He thinks the wicket-keeper batter will probably play more, claiming he is fit enough to play another year or so.

I do not think this will be his (Dhoni’s) last season. He is still fit. I think he will play one or two more seasons. He will definitely play one more season. The reason is he is fit.

MS Dhoni so far has had an average IPL. In five matches, he has batted in only three innings, scoring 39. His highest score came against Delhi Capitals, where he smacked 37* off 16
