Minnesota Vikings Sam Darnold is all chill after the controversial no-call amid a loss against the Los Angeles Rams. The 27-year-old expressed that he holds no grudge whatsoever regarding the incident on Thursday Night Football.

Darnold expressed acceptance during the post-game press conference. He also noted that they shouldn’t be in such situations in the first place.

The contentious missed penalty call overshadowed the Rams’ commanding 30-20 victory over the Vikings on Thursday. The Vikings were looking to bounce back from last week’s loss handed by the Detroit Lions. The Minnesota-based team is now on-par with Green Bay Packers with 5-2 in a closely contested NFC North.

The face mask, it is what it is. I thought we could’ve done a lot to not put ourselves in the situation that we were in. You know, the penalty before that. We just have to continue to play better and not put ourselves in that situation to begin with.

The Rams were holding an eight-point lead over the Vikings with 90 seconds left at that time. Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold launched a comeback attempt at the last minute from deep within his end zone. However, Rams linebacker Byron Young brought Darnold down for a sack and a safety, extending the Rams’ lead to 10 points.

Replays showed that Young accidentally grabbed Darnold’s face mask during the tackle, twisting his head awkwardly, but the referees missed it. The explanation by the referees and the inability to contest the same has left the fans and certain players reeling with frustration.

Sam Darnold faces heat after a hot start

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold began the season strong but has struggled in recent weeks. Although the possibility of a potential trade with the Rams remains as a conjecture, Darnold’s future isn’t.

Darnold signed a one-year contract in March and was supposed to stay as a backup for rookie JJ McCarthy. An injury to McCarthy prompted Darnold to take field and prove himself, which he did. Nevertheless, McCarthy will be up and running in 2025 after healing from his knee injury, which puts Darnold’s future with the Vikings at risk.

Dan Graziano of ESPN explored quarterbacks likely to enter the free agent market in March 2025, listing Darnold as one of the successful signal callers who could be on the move next season. Experts predict that Darnold could command up to $40 million per year, as stated on the October 3 episode of “The Spotrac Podcast.”
