Wimbledon was concluded on July 13 with Jannik Sinner securing a four-set win over Carlos Alcaraz in the final. A day before, Iga Swiatek scripted history in what was also the most lopsided Wimbledon final. She beat Amanda Anisimova without giving her a chance to win a game.
Then, at the Raffles Hotel, after the conclusion of the men’s final, the traditional Champions’ Dinner was held. Former player from America, Sam Querrey, was a part of the event, and later, during the Nothing Major podcast, he shared what exactly happened there.
You have some appetizers, and then Iga showed up at 10:30 pm. She came in, and you stand up. They made this cool video up on the Jumbotron. She holds up her trophy, and then you sit down. Sinner came at 00:05. I did not care, but he was just in the back hammering drinks with his team, having a good time. He came out with the trophy, and at some point, Laura Robson brought them both on stage.
Sinner told Robson that he had been drinking a lot of champagne with his team to celebrate his win. Later, during an interview with the BBC, he said that when he and Swiatek were told that they didn’t have to dance because it was too late, the Pole insisted that they must continue the tradition of dancing after Wimbledon wins.
And there was a rumor they were not going to have to dance, and the crowd peer pressured them into dancing. It was good, though. Jannik did a good job; he was feeling good and made it really fun. He started twirling Iga, and then 45 seconds in, they were done dancing and went back to the table.
Sam Querrey added
Sinner, with his victory over Alcaraz, has improved his head-to-head record to 5-8. Swiatek, however, had clashed with Anisimova for the first time in her career. The 24-year-old has become the second player after Steffi Graf to hand a double bagel to her opponent in a Grand Slam final.

At Wimbledon, Swiatek emerged victorious in a grass-court tournament for the first time. Before Wimbledon, she had played her career’s first grass-court final at the Bad Homburg Open but lost the title to Jessica Pegula. Sinner captured his career’s first title on grass at the 2024 Halle Open, which he failed to defend this year due to a defeat to eventual champion Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinal.
What’s next for Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner
Next is the Canadian Open, where both Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner will be playing to kick-start their campaigns on the North American hard-court swing. Last year, Swiatek had skipped the event due to fatigue.

Sinner, on the other hand, was defeated in the quarterfinals by eventual runner-up Andrey Rublev. He played the tournament to defend his title, as in 2023, he lifted the title there for the first time by beating Alex de Minaur. Swiatek has never won the Montreal trophy.
Last year on the North American hard-court swing, Sinner beat home favorites Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz in the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open finals, respectively. Swiatek was defeated in the semifinals in Cincinnati by eventual winner Aryna Sabalenka, while in New York, eventual runner-up Jessica Pegula knocked her out in the quarterfinals.
Both Swiatek and Sinner will aim to double their US Open tally. Swiatek was the winner here in 2022. The Wimbledon title was Swiatek’s first title of the season as well as her first since her victory at Roland Garros last year. Sinner won his second title of the season in the grass-court Major after his Australian Open triumph in January.
