Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are way ahead in terms of ranking points as well as titles tally on the men’s tour. According to Sam Querrey, the duo possess something extraordinary as they never complain about anything while playing.

Sinner and Alcaraz this year took home a combined 14 titles from 22 titles, splitting the four Majors. They, in fact, shared the last eight Grand Slam titles between them. The player other than them who last lifted a Major was Novak Djokovic at the 2023 US Open.

On the men’s tour, there are a lot of complaints from the top players about the court conditions. Sometimes, the complaint is about how slow or how fast the courts are. Then there are arguments about the ball speed.

Even the legendary Roger Federer recently claimed that the tournament directors intentionally slow the speed of the courts to benefit Sinner, so that he could reach the final and play Alcaraz. But when Sinner and Alcaraz are asked about it, they say that upon entering a tournament, one of their main goals is to adapt to the conditions because they don’t remain the same in every tournament. Because of this approach, they were lauded by Sam Querrey. He said on the Nothing Major podcast:

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz never complain about anything. You never hear them say, ‘The court conditions were slower or faster today’ or ‘I don’t like these balls.’ Things you hear from many other players on the tour. These two possess a special gift, which they share with Rafael Nadal. You will never hear them complain, not even in a whisper. I think it’s another kind of quasi-superpower they possess.

Alcaraz and Sinner took home eight and six titles, respectively, this season. They met six times this year, with Alcaraz winning on four occasions. The six-time Grand Slam champion ended the season as No.1 despite starting the ATP Finals as No.2 and losing the title clash to Sinner.

Daniil Medvedev on what he needs to do to beat Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Daniil Medvedev may have defeated Jannik Sinner seven times out of the 15 matches they have played against each other, but in their last three encounters, the latter emerged victorious. Since losing the Australian Open final to Sinner in five sets last year, Medvedev went on to face him five more times, winning only at Wimbledon.

Against Carlos Alcaraz, the head-to-head record is 2-6. The Spaniard also clinched the win in their last four meetings. Medvedev is in St. Petersburg for an exhibition event, and there, during his interview with Tennis Bolshoi, he was asked what he should do to defeat the World No.1 and the World No.2 next year.

I really thought about it a lot during training and tried to come up with something with the old team, but it turned out that I didn’t even play them once last season. And that’s why, honestly, I couldn’t care less right now. That is, if I reach them somewhere, great. Unfortunately, now, because of my ranking, it will be around the fourth round or quarterfinals. When the match is coming up, I’ll discuss with the team about what I will do against them. But I would say they need to be outplayed by the old Medvedev, with some of his new tricks.

Medvedev did not face Alcaraz or Sinner this year. The Russian took home just one title- the Almaty Open by defeating Corentin Moutet. It was his first title since his career’s first clay-court victory at the 2023 Italian Open. Because of his poor performances this year, the 29-year-old dropped outside of the top 10 and also failed to qualify for the ATP Finals.
