In the two-plus decades Charles Barkley has been a part of Inside the NBA’s team, he has always used his natural humor and wit to entertain fans, which has helped the 63-year-old become a household name.

Be it his jokes about players, coaches, and others, or even trolling his colleagues, that humor was one of the major reasons fans flamed the NBA and TNT for not helping the quartet continue their award-winning show.

Eventually, when they managed to continue after ESPN brokered a deal with TNT, fans were relieved that Barkley and his crew would not have to split up.

As much as there have been criticisms about their analysis, the Round Mound of Rebound has reiterated that he and his crew would rather lean on humor to entertain fans rather than explain X’s and O’s.

A major part of that humor is their chemistry. But there is also one aspect that has stuck with Charles Barkley over the entire time he has been in Studio J: trolling San Antonio and their women.

I learned a long time ago- you can’t teach courage; you can’t teach class. And Mr. Barkley reminds us of that.

Gina Ortiz Jones said

This was the Mayor of San Antonio dissing the Hall of Famer to his face when she made an appearance ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Inside the NBA crew specifically requested her presence, and she took up the challenge with a quote that left Barkley laughing, but speechless.

He immediately flipped to talking about how beautiful the city was, and that seemed to ease any chances of Charles Barkley getting some heat.

Charles Barkley does not back down from dissing San Antonio in front of their mayor

After talking about how beautiful San Antonio was, the show displayed a picture of Charles Barkley picking up chairs as part of his exercise. When explaining his actions, the forward said:

I was down on the river walk. I’m sorry, I was down on a creek walk today… Mayor, you know that’s a creek, that’s not a river.

Charles Barkley said

This was a straight diss about the city’s river walk, and it brought out a disappointed reaction from Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones. She tried to stop him from saying that it was a creek, but the former league MVP wouldn’t.

Then, Jones went on to school him again on how the San Antonio River Walk happens to be the biggest tourist attraction in all of Texas. After that, Barkley did not say anything, possibly knowing his jokes would not work anymore in the face of facts.

San Antonio Mayor gifts Charles Barkley ‘churros’

Since this was in the Game 1 pregame show, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and the crew of Inside the NBA then went on to talk about how she was excited for her San Antonio Spurs.

Once they discussed how this edition of the home team was different from the five championship-winning teams of the late 90s and early 2000s.

After all that, when it was time for the Mayor to depart, Inside the NBA host Ernie Johnson asked whether she had brought something for Charles Barkley.

She remembered she had brought a gift, and took out a box of churros and handed it over to the crew. Since almost all of the former Houston Rockets’ star’s jokes about San Antonio involve churos, Jones felt it was best to use the desert to troll him.

Unsurprisingly, Barkley was licking his lips when he waited for the box to reach him. As soon as it did, he dipped straight in and ate one. Throughout this time, the analyst said nothing.
