216 runs proved a little too much for CSK as Rajasthan Royals won their first game of Dream11 IPL 2020 after beating CSK by 16 runs on Tuesday. Faf du Plessis scored another fine knock but it couldn’t help his team win the game on this occasion.

CSK have now one win and one loss in two matches, while Rajasthan Royals have made a solid start with a win in their first game.

Rajasthan Royals scored 220 runs in the first innings, courtesy a couple of sensational knocks from Sanju Samson and Steve Smith. Sanju Samson just tore apart CSK’S bowling, particularly spinners. He hammered 74 runs off just 32 balls. Steve Smith played the role of a sheet anchor who tried to play till the end. He scored 69 runs off 47 balls before getting out in the 19th over of the innings.

CSK, in the latter hand of the innings, did pull it back a little, but Jofra Archer’s four sixes in the last over eventually helped RR reach where they wanted to.

Lack of intent shown by CSK in the second innings

Faf du Plessis

In pursuit of 216, CSK needed a great start. CSK openers struggled for the second consecutive time as the CSK lost both of them with 58 on the board in 8 overs. Sam Curran was sent in early and he did play a few beautiful shots but couldn’t last too long. Kedar Jadhav too played for a brief period. With the requiring rate going past 12 in an over and 5 wickets down, MS Dhoni was still in the dugout.

Faf Du Plessis did score 72 off 37, however, majority of the runs came in the final few overs. It would have been better had he showed that intent a little earlier.

CSK, in the end, fell short of 16 runs. The Men in Yellow will play their next game against Delhi Capitals on Friday.
