Saquon Barkley never played the Kansas City Chiefs, but he knew that the team led by Patrick Mahomes was unlike anything his team, the Philadelphia Eagles, has faced ever. A day before the Super Bowl LIX fixture, the star running back gave a pep talk, reminding his teammates that they could easily overpower the Chiefs in the game.

The majority of analysts and former players favored the Chiefs as the superior team compared to the Eagles. Mahomes and Co. aimed for a three-peat, whereas the Eagles wanted revenge for their 2022 loss.

Barkley wasn’t around in Philly back then, but he could feel the sense of responsibility that came with wearing the green of the Eagles. They were phenomenal during the season up to that point, beating the likes of the 10-7 Los Angeles Rams and 12-5 Washington Commanders in the playoffs to secure a spot in New Orleans.

Even though Barkley became part of the Eagles’ roster for a little over eight months before the Super Bowl bout, the Pro Bowl rusher quickly rose as one of the leaders in the locker room. He was given the task of delivering a pep talk and he did not disappoint.

As I watched film throughout the whole week, my confidence has grown even more, and I hope you guys are feeling the same thing. These guys can’t f*** with us.

Saquon Barkley told his Eagles teammates

Unlike Barkley, quarterback Jalen Hurts was part of the 2022 team and was out for revenge against the Chiefs. His calm demeanor may not reveal much, but he had a bone to pick with Mahomes and his crew.

I left that mother*** so empty. Don’t s**t else matter but winning.

Jalen Hurts said

Saquon Barkley can’t imagine playing anywhere else besides the Eagles

Barkley’s time with the New York Giants ended on a sour note after years of demanding a pay raise. After moving to Philly, the 28-year-old received his desired money, and he paid it back with 2000+ rushing yards (2504 including the playoffs) in the regular season.

Naturally, Barkley is enjoying his time in Philadelphia.

When you’re in one place and you think that’s where you wanna be and retire there, and then life happens. And I came here. Now I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.

Saquon Barkley told Fox29 (H/T: PennLive.com‘s Nick Farabaugh)

Barkley signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract with $26 million guaranteed and could increase to $46.75 million with bonuses. Fair to say he will get an even better deal, helping the underpaid running backs in return.
