Sauce Gardner is considered one of the better young cornerbacks in the NFL. His two-time All-Pro performances had many pegging him to be one to stay with the New York Jets for a very long time.

However, over the past two seasons, he has not been playing at his elite best, with penalties and getting blown up by opponents almost a regular occurrence.

At the same time, many believed it was just a matter of time before he returned to his best and hoped the Jets would usher in their young core under new head coach Aaron Glenn.

At the midway point of the season, they are 1-7 with their lone win coming against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8. That record probably led the top brass to think it was time to rebuild.

Earlier on November 4, Adam Schefter revealed that the Jets traded away Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts for 2 first-round draft picks. Other than the shock surrounding the trade, a past interview has resurfaced where the corner talked about his newest teammate.

That 2024 interview was after the Jets beat the New York Giants in their third preseason game. Sauce Gardner initially claimed Daniel Jones was a ‘good quarterback’.

But it was the awkward way he responded to the question that led many to believe the 25-year-old was trying to hold his genuine feelings about Jones.

He tried to clarify his response with a tweet, but it was clear that he did not think much about the then-Giants QB. Naturally, Jones was the subject of trolls, and the cornerback seemed to be one who enjoyed the humor. Now, he will be teammates with the Colts.

Sauce Gardner could turn into Jets ‘Hater’ after trade

Sauce Gardner signed a 4-year, $120.4 million contract extension with the New York Jets in the offseason. Before signing that deal, the Michigan native had claimed that he wanted to stay with the franchise for a long time.

Another video resurfaced when the 6′ 3″ defensive back claimed that if he were to change teams, and then the Jets became a force, he would turn into their ‘No. 1 Hater’.

Naturally, as one of the younger players on the team, he wanted the credit for helping turn their fortunes around. That did not happen, and now, as their rebuild enters stage 2, Gardner is no longer on the team.

Now, as part of the league-leading Indianapolis Colts, he will be tasked with helping their secondary become the best in the nation. Ironically, Daniel Jones is playing at an elite level and has been instrumental in leading their charge.

Maybe the change the Cincinnati alum was expecting to be a part of would be with a team that could surprise many on their way to the playoffs.

Sauce Gardner tries to console young fans after trade

News about Sauce Gardner‘s trade dropped like a bombshell, and the reaction of a couple of his young fans seemingly summed up what most were feeling.

A video made the rounds where a father broke the trade news to his two young sons. The older one was stunned initially, but continued to ask valid questions.

The younger one, on the other hand, immediately broke down into tears and then started cussing out the Jets for pushing his favorite player out.

It seems the younger son has a Jets Gardner jersey and proceeded to ask his father for a Colts one. This clip came to the attention of the star cornerback himself, and he wrote this on X:

You should’ve at least waited til tmrw (crying emoticons).

Sauce Gardner replied to the video

It seems the 2-time Pro Bowler was hoping the father would wait until the NFL confirms the trade, or he would wait until the defensive back made his way to Indianapolis.
