Last Sunday, Scottie Scheffler emerged victorious once again. The World No.1 came back from a 4-shot deficit in the final round to claim his 5th win of the season. His triumph again ignited comparisons with Tiger Woods. Ahead of the Tour Championship, Scheffler expressed that he does not “love” these comparisons.
Scheffler has been the most dominant golfer in the past few years. After a record-breaking season in 2024, he suffered a freak injury during Christmas, which delayed his 2025 start. He would start off slow, leading to some dropping hot takes regarding him.
Following his win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the World No.1 would shift gears. In the upcoming months, he would claim the PGA Championship, the Memorial Tournament and the Open Championship and finished the regular season on top of the FedEx Cup standings.
Last week, Scheffler came back from behind and stunned Robert MacIntyre in the final round to win the BMW Championship. He thus became just the 2nd golfer after Tiger Woods to have 5 or more wins in back-to-back PGA Tour seasons in the last 40 years.
Scheffler’s 5th win of the 2025 season saw him being compared to Woods once again. Ahead of the Tour Championship, the golfer once again turned down the comparison with him. He would again claim that it was silly to compare him with the 15-time major champion.
I think he (Tiger Woods) completely transcended the game of golf, and I think when it comes to me, I don’t even like comparisons to other players because I think when we come out here, I’m doing the best I can to be the best version of myself. I don’t think about legacy, I don’t think about the past. I try to get the most out of myself each week. I just don’t really love the comparisons at all.
Scottie Scheffler told the reporters
"I think it's very silly to be compared to Tiger Woods."

Despite the similarities between the two, Woods and Scheffler have surprisingly only played once together. They were paired together during the final round of the 2020 Masters. Scheffler would take down the then-defending champion Woods by 5 strokes.
Scottie Scheffler comments on new format regarding Tour Championship
This year, the format of the Tour Championship is a bit different. Unlike the previous starting strokes format, this time all golfers will start the final event of the 2025 PGA Tour season at even par. During the press conference of the event, Scottie Scheffler would make a joke while commenting on the new format.

Previously, the tournament used a starting strokes format, which could help the winner also claim the FedEx Cup. As per the previous format, the golfer at top of the FedEx Cup standings would start this event with a 10-under par score.
Last season, Scheffler started this finale with this score and went on to become the FedEx Cup champion while shooting a score of 30-under par. This year, Scheffler will not have that advantage, meaning he could end up losing the Tour Championship and not becoming the FedEx Cup champion despite winning 5 times on the tour.
I guess no more sandbagging for me at the end of the year. I was not a huge fan of the starting strokes format. I was a fan of the points format… This to me is a much simpler format to end the year.

Scheffler has been paired with World No.2 Rory McIlroy for the Tour Championship. The top two golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and the FedEx Cup standings will be the final pairing of this event at East Lake this week.
After the Tour Championship, Scheffler is expected to play in the Procore Championship in Napa, California, in preparation for the upcoming Ryder Cup at the Bethpage Course in New York.
