After another poor start, Scottie Scheffler was able to bounce back. Following a gritty performance on Friday, the World No.1 extended his cut streak to 68 as he squeezed above the cutline on the final hole.
Scheffler has been on a mixed run of form this season. After winning the American Express Championship in his first start of the season, he has gone through the highs and lows in his next two starts.
At the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, he fired an opening round score of 73. Despite this, he managed to finish T3, one stroke behind the playoff group of Hideki Matsuyama and Chris Gotterup.
In his next start at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he struggled again in the first round. Compared to his high standards, he fired a score of 72. Once again, the American international bounced back and finished T4, 2 strokes behind the winner Collin Morikawa.
During the first round of the Genesis Invitational on Thursday, things went south for him. Following 2 bogeys and 1 double bogey on the front nine, he started the back nine with a bogey. After that, the play was suspended due to the weather conditions.
The 4-time major champion was 5-over through the first 10 holes and faced the danger of missing the cut for the first time since the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August 2022.

On Friday, he reminded the golf world why he was the No.1 player in the world. With 2 birdies on the 13th and 14th holes, he recovered a bit and finished the first round while being 3-over par.
In the second round, he started with a birdie and a bogey. Another bogey on the 7th hole saw him go 1-over par for the round. He then made 3 consecutive birdies from holes 8 to 10. His 5th birdie of the round on the 17th hole saw him go 3-under par for the round.
On the final hole, he had a close-range putt for par. The putt would lip in and saw him finish the round with a score of 68 and narrowly made the cut and kept his streak alive.

Ahead of the third round, Scheffler is 12 strokes behind co-leaders Marco Penge and Jacob Bridgeman. Given how his weeks have gone after disastrous Thursdays, he could make another late surge.
As per insider Justin Ray, the 29-year-old is 7-over in his last three Thursdays. He is then astonishingly 42-under par for the rest of the week.

Scottie Scheffler claims having “weird relationship” with Riviera Course
Scottie Scheffler had another tough start this week as he struggled with his game on Thursday at the Riviera Country Club during the first round of the Genesis Invitational. After the second round, the golfer claimed he is having a “weird relationship” with this course.

The Riviera Country Club is one place where he has not won. In his 6 starts at this famous location, his best finish came in 2022, where he finished T7. Last year, he did finish T3 at The Genesis Invitational, but the event was not played here due to the Los Angeles Wildfires.
While speaking with the reporters, the Dallas-native expressed that he has not been able to play his best golf at this venue.
This place and I have like a weird relationship. I feel like I can play so well out here and I just haven’t yet.
Scottie Scheffler said
He, though, is not the only superstar who has struggled at this course. Tournament host Tiger Woods, who has over 100 professional wins in his famed career, never won here. His best finish came in 1999 when he was the runner-up.
Even Jack Nicklaus has not won here. The 18-time major champion is another big name who was unable to crack this course.
For Scheffler to win this week, he will have to produce one of the greatest comebacks in sports history. He will tee off with German international Matti Schmid in the third round on Saturday.
