On Sunday, Scottie Scheffler claimed his 4th major title following a dominating performance at the 153rd Open Championship. The World No.1 ran away with the competition from the beginning and captured his 2nd major championship win of the year.

Following a slow start to the year, Scheffler first captured the CJ Cup Byron Nelson before winning the PGA Championship at the Quail Hollow course in May. After winning the Memorial Tournament, he went into this event hoping to clinch another major honor.

The American fired a score of 68 in the first round and seized the lead of the competition with a score of 64 on Friday in Round 2. With a score of 4-under 67 on the moving day, Scheffler was well and truly locked in on the title.

The golfer got off to a perfect start on Sunday and birdied 3 of his first 5 holes. Despite a double bogey on the 8th hole, he bounced back with another birdie on the 9th hole. While he only managed a single birdie on the back nine, his job was more than done.

The 29-year-old fired a score of 3-under 68 in the final round to finish with a score of 17-under par for the tournament. His closest challenger was Harris English, who finished as the runner-up with a score of 13-under par, 4 shots behind Scheffler.

Scheffler, who has already won the Masters Tournament twice, has now completed three legs of the career grand slam. He now only needs to win the U.S. Open to become just the 7th player to win all four major championships.

Phil Mickelson congratulates Scottie Scheffler on winning the Open Championship after making bold comment regarding him

After an injury delayed his start to the season, Scottie Scheffler had a slow start to the campaign. At that time, Phil Mickelson would make a bold statement regarding him. On Sunday, the 6-time major champion was one of the first to congratulate him on his triumph.

Earlier this year, Mickelson boldly claimed that Scheffler would not win until the Ryder Cup this year. That obviously did not turn out to be the case, as the World No.1 won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the PGA Championship and the Memorial Tournament to force Mickelson to make a U-Turn.

As Scheffler inched closer to victory, the LIV Golf star took to his X account to congratulate him. The ‘Lefty‘ praised his putting game and labeled his performance as amazing.

Congrats to Scottie Scheffler on another impressive victory. So many irons shots were amazing and what a putting performance.

Speaking of Mickelson, he made his first cut at a major this year. He had missed the cut in the 3 previous major championships. The veteran golfer fired a score of 67 in the final round and finished T56 with a 1-over par score.

Scottie Scheffler matches incredible Tiger Woods record following Open Championship win

Scottie Scheffler’s amazing performances in the past few years have often led to him being compared with Tiger Woods. With his win at the Open Championship at the Royal Portrush on Sunday, he matched an incredible record with Woods.

Woods’ first major triumph came in 1997 when he torched the field at the Augusta National to win the Masters Tournament. He would then win the PGA Championship in 1999, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship in 2000, completing the career grand slam.

There was a total of 1,197 days between Woods’ 1st major and his 4th major triumph.

Scheffler first won the Masters in 2022 and then in 2024. He would then win the PGA Championship earlier this year. Sunday marks exactly 1,197 days between Scheffler’s 1st major and his 4th major.

Scheffler, who, before the start of the tournament, made some deep comments regarding winning a tournament and life, is likely the favorite to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year again. He would hope to keep this run going as he aims to go back-to-back as the FedEx Cup champion and try to help Team USA reclaim the Ryder Cup later this year.
