Sean O’Malley has a fight coming up in a few weeks. The bantamweight champion will defend his title again against top contender Merab Dvalishvili. However, ‘Suga’ is not haopy with how Dana White‘s UFC is promoting his fight at UFC 306. Here is what happened:
Sean O’Malley recently made an appearance on the ‘Believe You Me Podcast’. Host Michael Bisping asked the bantamweight champion felt with his fight coming up in a few weeks. This was when Sean O’Malley expressed some frustration with how the emphasis was on “The Sphere,” the venue for the event, rather than on the fight itself between him and Merab Dvalishvili.
A little annoyed-ish about the promotion of The Sphere. The Sphere is the show. I’m the one doing interviews, not The Sphere. Let’s promote Sean vs. Merab, the Suga show. I’m the one fighting let’s go baby. But, you know, it is what it is. The Sphere is going to be f*****g legendary, it’ll be epic, it’ll be cool.Sean O’Malley on Believe You Me Podcast
O’Malley believes that the focus should be on the fighters, especially since he is the one actively engaging in promotion and interviews. He feels the UFC is treating the venue as the star rather than highlighting the significance of his title defense. The fight is scheduled for this September in Las Vegas on Mexican Independence Day.
The Sphere is a state-of-the-art venue primarily known for its stunning visual capabilities and immersive experiences. This makes it a unique setting for a live sporting event. UFC 306 will be the first major sporting event held at the Sphere and Dana White has promised to create the greatest live combat sports show that anyone has ever seen.
Sean O’Malley talks about featherweight title contender Max Holloway
Sean O’Malley recently shared his thoughts on Max Holloway. The bantamweight champion addressed Holloway’s upcoming title fight against Ilia Topuria during his interview with Michael Bisping. O’Malley expressed high regard for the former champion, calling him one of the toughest opponents he could face in both the bantamweight and featherweight divisions.
O’Malley is confident that Holloway will win his bout against Topuria, which could set up a future clash between the two. The bantamweight champion also sees a potential opportunity to move up in weight and challenge Holloway for the featherweight title to pursue his double-champ aspirations.
I think Max gets the job done…Max goes out there and wins…. I think Max Holloway is one of the hardest opponents for me in the division, in both divisions
Sean O’Malley on Believe You Me Podcast
When Ilia Topuria revealed plans for a champ vs. champ title showdown, Dana White stated that both fighters needed to successfully defend their titles in their own divisions first. However, for Islam Makhachev’s first title defense, he fought Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. Thus it will be interesting to witness what matchup the UFC CEO comes up with in the coming months.
