Khamzat Chimaev is preparing for his upcoming title clash at UFC 319 against Dricus Du Plessis in Chicago’s United Center arena. Fans are highly excited for the matchup, with ‘Borz’ entering as the clear favorite due to his aggressive fighting style. Recently, Chimaev expressed strong confidence in victory and even took a public swipe at his old training partner, Sean Strickland.
Chimaev is undefeated in the UFC and has dominated most of his opponents with ease, excluding a few competitive fights. He doesn’t consider Du Plessis a real champion and believes his wrestling would dismantle the South African in the early rounds. In a recent interview, the Russian mocked DDP’s resume while dismissing Strickland’s credentials as a top fighter.
No one [Dricus Du Plessis fought] was undefeated. He beat Adesanya who already lost. Sean Strickland, he don’t know how to fight. I don’t know how to lose. He can say whatever he wants but he has deal with my hands.

DDP has faced Sean Strickland twice, winning both encounters, though he was unable to secure a finish against the resilient American. In their most recent bout earlier this year, Du Plessis won more dominantly, but Strickland earned praise for his extreme durability. Nevertheless, the rivalry between Chimaev and Strickland has simmered for years and shows no signs of fading soon.
Recently, Strickland lashed out at ‘Borz,’ accusing him of being a bad person and bullying his sparring partners. Both fighters previously trained together at Xtreme Couture before their relationship soured, leading to an ongoing personal and professional rivalry between them. Chimaev fired back, challenging Strickland to confront him face-to-face and stop talking trash while he was outside the United States.
Chimaev has threatened to release footage allegedly showing him dominating Strickland during their past sparring sessions. ‘Tarzan’ also shared his UFC 319 prediction, surprisingly siding with his former opponent Du Plessis to defeat Chimaev in the title fight. Ahead of UFC 319, the South African champion appears fully prepared to handle anything Chimaev plans to unleash inside the Octagon.
Khamzat Chimaev gets a serious warning ahead of UFC 319
Khamzat Chimaev earned his title shot after breaking former champion Robert Whittaker’s jaw in a dominant performance that stunned the MMA world. His relentless wrestling style has been a constant threat to opponents, often overwhelming them with pressure before they can mount any offense.
Despite Chimaev being the clear favorite, Dricus Du Plessis remains unfazed. After all, the middleweight champion deliberately requested the UFC to match him against the undefeated Chechen star.

The South African champion believes his diverse skill set and cardio can neutralize Chimaev’s wrestling, creating a thrilling stylistic clash for fans. In a recent UFC video, DDP’s coach talked in detail about dealing with Chimaev’s wrestling inside the Octagon.
He’s only faced guys who are trying to get away from his wrestling. We don’t want to try to get away from his wrestling. We want to f*** him up in his game…That guy is one-dimensional. You’ve seen his stand-up. I wouldn’t even give him a pro license for his sh*t stand-up. He doesn’t present any problem for us.

Former rival Israel Adesanya has predicted DDP to have an edge over Chimaev if the fight goes beyond the first three rounds. The Chechen’s cardio has always been a topic of discussion, but his initial storm would be too hard for Du Plessis to stop. Ahead of the fight, the challenger has taken serious measures to not getting sick and ruining the main event title bout.
