The ‘Tarzan’ Sean Strickland entered the octagon for another title opportunity at UFC 312. The Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney hosted his highly anticipated grudge match against the reigning 185 lbs champion Dricus Du Plessis. However, the aftermath of the fight drew a wave of criticism aimed at the American fighter.
The main event fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis went the full five rounds and blood spilled everywhere. In the end, DDP ultimately came out as the winner by unanimous decision. Interestingly, many observers noted that Strickland didn’t seem hungry enough during the match. Recently, UFC legend Demetrious Johnson expressed a similar opinion on the fight.
Sean Strickland has a style where he would not not deviate from it whether he’s losing a five-round decision or if he’s winning a five-round decision… He’s been doing that style from the very beginning in the last four years of his career and he’ll do it for the next four years of his career. In order to get better in this sport and mixed martial arts you have to take the time. Swallow your pride, swallow your ego, and put yourself in a position where you’re going to force yourself to evolve.

Over the years, Strickland has faced intense scrutiny for his lackluster performances and fighting style. Several of his rivals describe him as a basic fighter who lacks any exceptional abilities. In contrast, DDP is noted for his unconventional fighting style, which has impressed many in the UFC. He has successfully neutralized some of the most formidable fighters in the division.

Among the criticisms and remarks regarding fate, some have praised Du Plessis for his determination to secure a victory. Due to the reputation of the South African fighter, Demetrious Johnson and others expected to see more effort from Strickland at UFC 312. However, after watching him fight in his usual style, even legends like Johnson expressed their criticisms.
Dricus Du Plessis believes the ‘boos’ in their fight were directed towards Sean Strickland
In their previous encounter at UFC 297, Sean Strickland lost his middleweight title by a split decision. However, Strickland was convinced that he did not lose that fight. As a result, he called for a rematch against Dricus Du Plessis. Leading up to the fight, there were several verbal exchanges between both UFC middleweight fighters.

Notably, Strickland even called for a war against Du Plessis at UFC 312. However, the American fighter performed completely contrary to the promises he made. As a result, the live audience at the Qudos Bank Arena booed during their fight. Hours after the match, Du Plessis seemingly shared his thoughts on the boos that echoed throughout the fight.
When I heard the boos, in my mind, 100 percent was towards him. If it was towards me, then you are stupid… If it was boring in any way, I’m really sorry. Like, that’s not my fault. I went forward; I wanted to fight, and you know, I know there were times where it was, I guess, not a war, but it’s not my fault. I went for it; I wanted to fight.

With another successful title defense, Du Plessis further solidified his reign in the UFC. Conversely, Strickland appeared to struggle to make any significant impact against the South African fighter this time. While there are numerous lucrative opportunities and matchups available for Du Plessis, it remains uncertain what the future holds for ‘Tarzan.’
