Israel Adesanya suffered another devastating loss at UFC Saudi Arabia, getting stopped in the second round by rising contender Nassourdine Imavov. This defeat marks his fourth loss in five fights, leading many to believe that the former champion is now washed. However, former rival Sean Strickland has a completely different take on Adesanya’s decline, offering an alternative perspective on his struggles.
Strickland became the UFC middleweight champion by defeating Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 in a dominating fashion. It was a major upset, and both fighters’ bad blood was massive going into the fight. However, after the clash, both superstars shook hands, and it seems like Strickland has buried the hatchet. In a recent interview, ‘Tarzan’ showed respect to Izzy for his incredible career.
He made his legacy…You don’t really gotta prove anything man, you’re a lasting name in the sport. You’ve chiseled your name in it. No shame.

Adesanya is one of the most decorated champions in recent times, and had a successful title reign. The fighter never shied away from challenges, and took on everybody that the UFC threw towards him. His dynamic fighting style and striking prowess made him an entertaining watch, but things have changed now.

Adesanya’s downfall started with his loss against Alex Pereira and then he lost against Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis. In most of the fights, he looked good, even at UFC Saudi Arabia. However, many assume that the fighter’s chin is not as strong as it used to be. Watching the respect between Strickland and Izzy was really wholesome for the fans.
Fight fans react to Sean Strickland crediting Israel Adesanya for his achievements
Sean Strickland is infamous for being one of the biggest heels in the UFC. The American fighter has had beef with several other superstars, and doesn’t seem to be slowing down soon. His unfiltered personality and brash opinions make him extremely controversial.

However, ‘Tarzan’ often shows his sensitive side, which is appreciated by the MMA community. Giving Israel Adesanya his flowers was one such move, and it shows how Izzy has respect from his opponents. Here are some reactions to Strickland’s latest comments.
There’s a special kind of mutual respect after fighting someone.

Why has Sean been giving good takes recently?
— Jacob Tedla (@TedlaJacob) February 4, 2025
Never would have guessed he would be the voice of reason in 2025.
He’s absolutely right. It’ll be tough to talk about the greatest MW fighters in UFC history and not bring up Izzy.

Sean seems diff… he’s locked in this time
— General Graham (@nsnskxz) February 4, 2025
Agree with Strickland on this one. There’s nothing left for Izzy to accomplish, he’s already a UFC legend regardless of what he does next.

Given Strickland’s history with controversies and bad mouthing, many fans were shocked after watching him respect Adesanya. They really appreciated the ‘Tarzan’ for giving a valid take instead of just taking his usual path of talking trash. It would be interesting to see how the American fighter behaves at the upcoming presser at UFC 312.
