One of the notables from Harrison Butker’s controversial speech earlier this year that the Swifties took offense to, was addressing the global superstar Taylor Swift as his teammate’s girlfriend. At the recent ESPY Awards, former legendary tennis player Serena Williams gave the NFL kicker a taste of his own medicine by addressing his teammate as Swift’s boyfriend.

Williams took the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to deliver the opening monologue to commence the award show and filled the space with laughter hosting the 2024 ESPY Awards. As she moved along with her monologue, she brought attention to the power couple, Travis Kelce and Swift—whose absence from the function was clearly noted.

She started by congratulating the NFL’s newest dynasty Kansas City Chiefs after their second consecutive Super Bowl victory before taking a jab at the love birds, most particularly the star tight end.

Though Williams’ joke was about the fairytale couple, it indirectly targeted the Chiefs’ kicker, since she had publicly expressed her displeasure with his speech. Nonetheless, the love birds would have hardly taken Williams’ joke as an offense as Kelce never fails to show how proud is of his superstar girlfriend.

Although the three-time Olympic gold medalist didn’t compromise the dose of entertainment while hosting the award function, fans couldn’t help but notice the evident absence of the celebrity couple.

The “Lover” singer wrapped up her Eras Tour concert in Zurich and is reportedly in the midst of preparation for the next leg scheduled in Milan. And though it wasn’t confirmed whether the three-time Super Bowl champion is accompanying Swift to Milan, he also missed the ESPY night despite his team being nominated for the “Best Team.”

The celebrity couple has been all over the news lately with their adorable moments from Swift’s recent Eras Tour legs, including the tight end’s on-stage appearance to perform a skit for his girlfriend.
