Serena Williams’ childhood coach draws a parallel between Iga Swiatek’s RUTHLESS attitude on clay to Rafael Nadal

The Hall of Fame coach Rick Macci tweeted that the Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek‘s clay dominance resembles that of the Spanish great Rafael Nadal. The two-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek is currently dealing with an injury sustained during the Rome Masters and trying to fit in to retain the title in the Parisian clay.
As Macci tweeted, “The way Iga competes on the dirt she is ruthless locked in and locks you out. Her mindset is exactly like a Nadal.” The tennis world is not so sure about Macci’s remarks because Swiatek has had her meltdowns in some of the matches where the going gets tough and her mindset to overcome difficult situations raised questions about.
Rock Macci has coached Serena Williams in the past. being a tennis coach and having the experience of leading one of the Greatest tennis players of all time, Macci’s thoughts about Swiatek will eventually put more expectations and pressure on the head of Swiatek who is already dealing with a lot of mental issues in overcoming the pressure of expectations.
Iga Swiatek looks to be fit for the French Open
The Polish World No.1 was in great form until the injury setback during the Rome quarter-finals against Elena Rybakina. Before the match, she was able to win 14 matches continuously proving to the world on how deservingly she is the World No.1 player in the world. The Polish star’s thigh injury started showing concerns in the second set of the match.
She lost the second set but returned back to play the final set. They were tied at 2 games all in the third when the Polish decided to withdraw. The injury didn’t look so good at first but Swiatek has tweeted that the injury is not so severe. The positive news is a relief for the tennis world which is still shocked by the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal in the men’s draw.
Swiatek has won the French Open twice, in 2020 and 2022. Her last triumph in 2022 was in a dominating fashion Coco Gauff. The final score was 6-1, 6-3.
