Alexander Zverev has been under a lot of negative attention after his Australian Open final loss to Jannik Sinner. The German has now lost three straight major finals, with earlier losses coming at the 2020 US Open and the 2024 Roland Garros.

Many fans were disappointed with the quality of the Australian Open final. Some blamed Zverev for not rising to the occasion like Sinner. However, Patrick Mouratoglou believes there are a few missing elements in the German’s game that need addressing.

I don’t think that Sascha loses this Grand Slam final, at least the last one, because he doesn’t believe enough. I think he does believe, but I think that there’s still things he’s lacking in his game. He improved, for sure. He’s no. 2 in the world now, he came back stronger, and I think he added a lot of things in his game. When it comes to the big moments, he lacks being bold, being aggressive, taking the risk, taking the match, really taking it.

Patrick Mouratoglou said on his Instagram account

Zverev has put in a lot of work to reach his current position. The two-time ATP Finals champion broke his foot in the 2022 Roland Garros semifinal against Rafael Nadal. The injury kept him out for the entire year, but he regrouped to have an outstanding 2024 season, finishing at a career-high World No. 2.

However, the Grand Slam question remains unanswered for Zverev. The 27-year-old has won almost everything outside of the Grand Slams, including the Olympic Singles Gold medal in Tokyo in 2021.

Jannik Sinner causes major controversy after the Australian Open

Jannik Sinner is in the spotlight after his amazing performance at the Australian Open. The young Italian star won the title in Melbourne but made headlines for another reason. He decided not to attend a special event at the Quirinale, hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella. Other top Italian tennis players were also invited.

His choice to skip the event has led to debate in Italy. Reports say Sinner wanted to rest because of his tough schedule. He has been playing in intense matches and needed time to recover. The 23-year-old faced a difficult tournament, which took a toll on his body.

Many fans and experts support his decision. They believe his health should come first. In his match against Holger Rune, he needed a medical timeout and looked unwell. His recent health struggles make rest very important for him.

Others think he should have attended the event. They say it was a rare honor and a chance to celebrate Italian tennis. Meeting the president after such a big win would have been special. Some feel he missed an important opportunity.
