The top-seeded Italian easily defeated Australian Christopher O’Connell, winning 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. This victory took him to the fourth round at Flushing Meadows for the fourth straight year. Sinner will next play against either Tommy Paul, the 14th seed, or Gabriel Diallo. At 23, Sinner has reached at least the quarter-finals in every major tournament this year and won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

While Alcaraz and Djokovic struggled in their recent matches, Sinner started strong against O’Connell. He dominated with powerful groundstrokes, hitting 46 winners with only 22 unforced errors, showing a solid baseline game. After losing his first set of the tournament to Mackenzie McDonald, Sinner has been dominant, losing only 18 games in his last nine sets.
