Sergino Dest says he’s enjoying playing in a more attacking role at FC Barcelona under Ronald Koeman

FC Barcelona right back Sergino Dest is constantly growing under Ronald Koeman and becoming a vital cog in the team. Dear scored twice as FC Barcelona defeated Real Sociedad by six goals to one. This makes Sergino Dest the highest scoring US Mens’s Soccer team player in Spain’s top flight.

“I feel like I’ve developed a lot in Barcelona,” Dest told reporters on Thursday. “This system we’re playing right now, that’s something that fits me really well. I’m playing with the best of the game (Messi). Every training, you look at him and see what he does, it’s unbelievable. I try to take a couple of things from him, of course, but it’s really hard.

Dest has stressed that he’s trying to learn new things from a more attacking style if play at FC Barcelona. The right back is a huge fan on Lionel Messi and us obviously gathering all the knowledge possible. He will be joining the US Mens’s Soccer team for international matches against Jamaica and Northern Ireland respectively.

Ronald Koeman has been using Sergino Dest more as a fullback nowadays which allows him to have more space to roam around with Frenkie De Jong dropping in deep. This has played into Sergino Dest;s strengths as attacking play remains his forte.

This system fits the whole team as well, especially me,” Dest said. “It’s a little bit better because I have someone behind me and I like to take some risks into my game. 

“If I take risks in the game, I’m at my best, taking actions where I can go while attacking. Of course, it can go wrong, but now I have someone behind me, so that’s really good for me!”
