The 45-year-old previously revealed his desire to play in 2-3 Ryder Cup events more. Whether he gets selected for the 2025 edition is currently unclear, he has envisioned captaining his team at the 2027 edition in Adare Manor in Ireland.

I would love to be playing still. Obviously there have been some talks or there were some talks about maybe the possibility of me being the captain there. But obviously my focus as of now is on playing and hopefully making a few more Ryder Cups if my game is good enough.

Sergio Garcia said as per Al Arabiya News

Following the 2023 edition, the name of Sergio Garcia was reported as the next in line to lead the team. There had been rumors of him going up against Tiger Woods as captains at the 2025 event in New York.

However, Team Europe decided to stay with Luke Donald as the captain. The Englishman will now be aiming for back-to-back triumphs when he leads his team out against Keegan Bradley‘s side.

Garcia’s decision to join LIV Golf had sparked wild reactions. Since then, he has several times defended his league and his move which has upset a lot of fans.

On X, the golf fans rejected the idea of seeing him as Team Europe’s captain one day. While one fan suggested the name of Justin Rose instead, another blasted him. The fan wrote, “He’s a manchild” while slamming the veteran golfer.

At the moment Garcia is participating in LIV Golf’s 2025 season opener at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Last year, he finished 3rd in the player standings just behind Joaquin Niemann and countrymen Jon Rahm. He won once and had three runners-up finish in the last campaign, which is something he would be hoping to repeat this year.
