Moments after CM Punk unseated Gunther to become the new World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam, Seth Rollins‘ music sent the MetLife Stadium into a frenzy. ‘The Visionary’ came out limping on crutches with his oracle, Paul Heyman, holding the MITB briefcase. At first, it seemed as if Rollins had just emerged to remind Punk of his looming threat.

However, after Rollins turned back, he dramatically dropped the crutches, removed his right knee brace, and made his way to the ring. The Chicago Bears buff started unloading on an already exhausted Punk. Rollins then officially cashed in his MITB contract by stomping his rival’s face into the canvas. ‘The Best in the World’ was done for and lost the world title within five minutes and twelve seconds of winning it.

Rollins was absolutely delighted after winning a world title for the sixth time in WWE. And by doing so, he also kept his promise of not allowing Punk to stay at the top of WWE as long as he’s there. The Architect’s entire crew, including Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, also joined their leader in the ring to celebrate.

On commentary, Michael Cole didn’t miss out on a shrewd wordplay by deeming Rollins’ coup as the ‘Ruse of the Century’. As Rollins reached the entrance stage, he turned and started swinging the title belt over his head, which was completely reminiscent of the ‘Heist of the Century‘ moment from WrestleMania 31.

Was Seth Rollins’ knee injury a ruse?

The biggest reason why Seth Rollins‘ successful MITB cash-in was even more shocking is that he tricked everyone into believing that his knee injury was enough to keep him sidelined for months. He tweaked his right knee while wrestling LA Knight at last month’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. At first glance, the airborne landing that rocked ‘The Revolutionary’ looked devastating.

Rollins even had to be helped to the back by a couple of WWE staffers. The next night, Triple H noted during the Evolution 2 press conference that they were still evaluating the Iowa-born wrestler, but it wasn’t looking positive. In hindsight, either WWE completely worked its audience, or Rollins’ injury didn’t turn out to be that bad, as they’d have initially thought. A new report from Fightful Select is claiming that the creative team had a tentative date mapped out for The Visionary’s cash-in.

The report added that, as of Saturday afternoon, the backstage staff weren’t expecting a cash-in to happen. However, once Rollins entered the gorilla position, the ambiance had pretty much changed. The moment he pulled up was when those around realized that he was going to run down that aisle and do the rest. Albeit it was kept very tight in backstage circles until the moment of truth arrived.

Becky Lynch shares her reaction to Seth Rollins’ SummerSlam exploits

While Seth Rollins was making the crowd go bananas for him, his wife, Becky Lynch, couldn’t have been happier, as she appeared in the following clip she posted on X. ‘The Man’ was rejoicing and hilariously mocked the netizens for her misleading posts regarding her husband’s injury status.

A few days ago, Lynch posted a video on Instagram wherein Rollins was seen walking beside his daughter, Roux, on crutches. It made even the doubters believe that ‘The Visionary’ was seriously hurt. However, it needs to be said that the husband-wife duo was playing chess, not checkers, at the time.

‘Big Time Becks’ is basking in the admiration of Rollins, but she herself has a tall task at hand on Sunday night. The Irishwoman will defend her women’s Intercontinental title against Lyra Valkyria in a No Holds Barred match. Should Lynch win, Valkyria wouldn’t be able to challenge for the title until ‘The Man’ has it.
