A couple of weeks ago, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful noted that WWE had internally discussed CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 41. That caught a bunch of fans off guard who were expecting Seth Rollins as The Best in the World’s opponent at The Show of Shows. A new update from Ibou of WrestlePurists has shed some light on what Seth would be doing in Las Vegas.

As of now, he’s reportedly in line to face Gunther, which may end up having the World Heavyweight Championship on the line that’s currently being held by the Austrian. That significantly increases the chances of Gunther walking into WrestleMania with the gleaming strap tied around his waist. Last year, WWE briefly teased Rollins vs. Gunther for Mania.

Back in November 2019, when WWE held a live taping of Raw in the UK, he demanded the best to come out. The Ring General, who was known as WALTER at that point, interrupted The Visionary alongside his Imperium cohorts. They had a singles match that was marred by Imperium’s interference—ending in a DQ.

That was the first time Seth and Gunther had wrestled each other in WWE. Over 5 years removed, the stars are aligning for them to duke it out at The Grandest Stage of Them All. Rollins lost the world title to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania XL and has since not been able to regain the gold.

Now that his presumed high-profile bout with Punk is out of the window, The Architect has to resort to the alternatives. On paper, there doesn’t seem to be a better consolation prize than Seth challenging for the world title at the Allegiant Stadium this April.

Seth Rollins would love to upset CM Punk on Raw’s Netflix debut

It does look like WWE pulled the trigger on Seth Rollins‘ mouth-watering clash against CM Punk. Instead of WrestleMania 41, which Sami Zayn confirmed during a recent interview that it was indeed the plan, the company is now throwing it away on the Netflix premiere of Raw.

On the last Raw of 2024, Punk and Rollins traded some spicy blows. In the promo’s epilogue, The Architect asked The Second City Saint to bring his fist full of arrows. Rollins would bank on his eyes of fire and heart brimming with rage, and he’d burn Punk to the ground.

It couldn’t have gotten more heated than that. Now that all the talking is done, the two men at loggerheads will look to resonate that energy inside the ring as well. It’d be interesting to see who leaves LA with his head held high.
