Sevilla vs Inter Milan: Europa League Final Preview

The Europa League final will be played tonight. It is Sevilla vs Inter Milan in the finals. After all the concerns regarding the finish to the season, the final will take place at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne.

The longest season till date of the Europa League will finally come to an end today. Sevilla, the team known for their Europa League triumphs will take on Conte’s Inter Milan.

The Semi-final will be played on 22^nd August (12:30 AM Indian Standard Time). Cologne was selected as the venue for the ‘Final 8’ format after UEFA’S single-leg decision from the quarterfinals. Surprisingly, this will be the first meeting between Sevilla and Inter Milan.

The final would be Inter’s 11^th final in European competitions. Inter’s task will not to be easy as they are up against Sevilla, the most successful side in the competition.

Inter’s last final appearance came against Bayern in 2010 in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Sevilla’s recent appearance came in a 3-1 victory over Liverpool in 2016 Europa League final.

The Andalusians are currently on their longest unbeaten streak in the club’s history. Out of the 20 games, they have won 11 and 9 draws. In this season’s Europa League, they have 11 different goal-scorers which is second highest in the competition.

Sevilla will come into match knowing that they have never lost a Europa League final. The win over United, will give confidence to Lopetegui’ s side coming into the final.

Sevilla’s Road to Finals

Sevilla finished top in their group which included Apoel, Qarabag FK and Dudelange. They finished the group stages with 5 wins and 1 loss.

• Quarterfinals: Defeated Wolves 1-0

• Semi-finals: Defeated Manchester United 2-1

Sevilla’s toughest match came against United where they were put to a test. Their resilience eventually got them through.

Inter’s current form

Inter started in the Champions League, but a poor display saw them finished 3^rd behind Tottenham and FC Barcelona. That put them into the Europa League where they are undefeated in their 5 outings. This record could be further extended with a 6^th win, against Sevilla in the finals.

Romelu Lukaku has had a great season, scoring 33 in all competitions. Conte and his side will look to get back the trophy to Inter, after a decade of absence in the finals.

Inter Milan’s Road to Finals

Having dropped from the Champions League, Inter started their Europa League campaign from the Round of 32.

• Round of 32: Defeated Ludogorets 4-1 on aggregate

• Round of 16: Defeated Getafe 2-0

• Quarterfinals: Defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-1

• Semi-finals: Defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0

Inter were tested against Leverkusen in the quarters. The semi-final was a one-sided affair against Shakhtar.

The Final, Sevilla vs Inter Milan has the potential to be full of drama. Sevilla and Inter Milan have produced some of the best displays in their run to the final. Inter and Conte will look to finish the season with silverware.

Conte’s men finished 1 point off the Serie A summit. Sevilla finished 4^th in La Liga, and Lopetegui’ s young side will love to finish the season with a trophy.
