IPL 2021: “I was very clear about my plans” – Shahbaz Ahmed speaks on his game-changing spell

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) notched up their second consecutive win in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they got past Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with a spirited bowling performance. On tricky conditions to bat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Orange Army seemed to be cruising in the chase before a game-changing spell from Shahbaz Ahmed turned it in RCB’s favour.
Shahbaz had earlier failed to contribute much with the bat after being promoted to No. 3. It was Glenn Maxwell‘s fighting half-century which had taken RCB to 149. With the ball however, Shahbaz arrived late on and accounted for Manish Pandey, Jonny Bairstow and Abdul Samad to help clinch the win. Although Maxwell was awarded the Man of the Match, it was Shahbaz’s spell which turned things around.

Shahbaz Ahmed spoke to Royal Challengers Bangalore after being awarded the side’s Myntra Stylish Player of the day. “It was a nervous situation, Warner played so long that’s why I got the 17th over but the wicket was helping as it was offering grip and the captain knew that. Those two overs changed the game for us. I’m happy to contribute to my team’s victory,” he said in the video.
Harshal Patel who was excellent at the death also spoke about the match saying, “I was very clear about my plans. I knew what I wanted to do. I was confident that I will be able to execute it. It was just one of those errors that happened and luckily we got out of the other side of the game. Every time you bag those two points you get the satisfaction. We have made some errors in this game as well but it’s all about getting better and focusing on the next clash now.”
RCB will face Kolkata Knight Riders next on the 18th of April.
