Shane McMahon has been notably absent from WWE since his last appearance with the company at WrestleMania 39. Many rumors over the past few weeks have suggested that the son of the billionaire won’t be returning to the Stamford-based promotion and is, instead, AEW-bound. Further fuel was added to the fire after he was spotted having a conversation with AEW President Tony Khan.

An image obtained by WrestleTalk recently revealed Shane McMahon having a meeting with the AEW CEO. They appear to be meeting in private, as no one else was spotted in the room alongside them. There is a very high chance that the two were discussing the 54-year-old’s debut in the Nashville-based promotion.

The son of the former WWE Chairman is clearly interested in signing with the company. He has allegedly reached out to multiple wrestlers on the AEW roster. Furthermore, he has also been spotted having a conversation with Mercedes Mone, one of the poster girls of the Jacksonville-based promotion.

Many fans have been anticipating the 54-year-old’s return to the Stamford-based promotion for a while now. However, the chances of this happening in the near future are slim to none. There seems to be nothing stopping him from going to AEW, as he hasn’t signed a long-term contract with WWE either.

This photo being leaked was surely a huge surprise for the wrestling world. Unfortunately for Tony Khan, it may not have garnered the response that he would have expected it to. Many fans believed that McMahon going to AEW would not end up being a good move in the long run. Even former WWE wrestler-turned-politician Matt Morgan opined that he would not be an impactful signing.

His days of wrestling regularly are long-gone, and him playing a backstage role like a general manager does not help ratings. Netizens brought up how Khan did not shy away from signing former WWE guys onto his company. He would surely love to have someone like McMahon on board with him. With the company’s biggest show, AEW All In, right around the corner, it may be a perfect time to debut the 54-year-old as well.

Although the wrestling world has seen plenty of unlikely scenarios in the recent past, McMahon’s debut in AEW is of a different magnitude altogether. Khan seems to have made it his life mission to take WWE head-on. The McMahon family, and Vince McMahon in particular, made WWE the global juggernaut that it is today. Signing the controversial figure’s son onto his roster could be a huge move for the 41-year-old, regardless of how it pans out.
