NASCAR witnessed history in making when Shane van Gisbergen made history by winning the Chicago Street Race, becoming one of the handful of racers to win on debut. Since then, the three times Supercars champion made his move to USA, earned a full-time seat with Trackhouse Racing owing to his road course dominance.
During this time, he has earned the respect of the whole garage as well as some good friends from his fellow Cup racers. On Shane van Gisbergen’s appearance on the Happy Hour podcast, 2014 Kevin Harvick asked him about his best friend in the garage and was really surprised when the Kiwi named 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace.
KH: In a NASCAR garage, who’s your who’s your best buddy?
SVG: Uh, probably Bubba, I’d say. Yeah.
KH: Really?
SVG: Yeah. We get along pretty good.
Shane van Gisbergen told Kevin Harvick.
SVG is now friends with Ryan Blaney as well and they spend a lot of time the Ford driver in the sims alongside Bubba Wallace. Kiwi IndyCar racer Scott McLaughlin is also part of the friends group. The latter was close associates with the 23XI drivers for years and it seems that association brought all of them together.
SVG: Him and Blaney and Scotty and like we race on the simulator together and its good fun.
KH: I could see Scotty, but I think that Bubba, I mean, you guys were all together at the summer shootout
SVG: Yeah, we had fun there. So, we seem to get along and play video games during the week and stuff like that.

Kevin Harvick shares his thoughts Shane van Gisbergen’s COTA race loss to Tyler Reddick
The road course are the bread and butter of Shane van Gisbergen in NASCAR. But last week at COTA he lost an over historical performance from Bubba Wallace’s teammate Tyler Reddick. Kevin Harvick talked about it on his podcast and highlighted how the No:97 team tried everything but failed cause they weren’t fans enough compared to the No:45.

At the end of that race, he was throwing up right next to the barriers and doing everything that he could do. But they just didn’t have the pace this weekend that the No. 45 and the No. 12 had.
Kevin Harvick said.
Furthermore, he highlighted how the Toyota racer driving without any mistake, something that has been key to SVG’s success in NASCAR played a major role in the final result. For the second straight year the Trackhouse driver lost at Austin to a Toyota driver who produced a superior weekend than him.
Reddick just never made any mistakes… It really, really made him look strong down the front straightaway when he would get off of Turn 20 so well. He’d pull three or four car-lengths every lap on Blaney and on SVG. So, they were superior this weekend.
Kevin Harvick added.
The comments from the 2014 Cup Series champion seems to be on point and it shows with the right car, Tyler Reddick will be one of the biggest competitions out there for Shane van Gisbergen in the 2026 road course races. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the duo in the reminder of the season.
