Novak Djokovic vs. Jannik Sinner: Match Preview
Novak Djokovic clinched three of the four Grand Slam titles in 2023. However, this year, the Serbian is yet to win his first tour-level title. Apart from the Olympic gold medal, Djokovic has been unable to win anything in the 2024 season. He missed out on defending his Australian Open crown, losing to Jannik Sinner in the semifinal.
Djokovic pulled out of the Roland Garros midway due to injury. Carlos Alcaraz got the best out of the Serbian in the Wimbledon final for the second consecutive year and the 37-year-old suffered a third-round exit at the US Open. Nevertheless, despite all the odds, Djokovic has made it to the final in Shanghai on his return to the tournament after five years.
He defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets in the semifinal. The Serbian has dropped just one set (against Jakub Mensik in the quarterfinal) so far. Djokovic looks in good rhythm and is confident about his chances against the top-ranked player in the final. However, his task won’t be easy.
Novak Djokovic vs. Jannik Sinner: Match Prediction
Jannik Sinner has been in the form of his life this season, winning his first two Grand Slam titles. The Italian ace is now 64-6, tying his wins total from 2023 when he set the record for most wins by a male player from Italy in a single season in the Open Era. Out of the six defeats, only one has come against a player ranked outside the top 10.
Sinner has reached the quarterfinal or better in every tournament he has played this season. The 23-year-old has won six titles and has lost only one final, to Carlos Alcaraz at the China Open. The Italian has been so dominant in the rankings, that he leads second-placed Alcaraz by a whopping 3,270 points in live rankings.
On the other hand, Djokovic has struggled to be himself with injuries also bogging him down. The Serbian has a 37-8 win-loss record this season. Against Sinner, Djokovic has lost three of the last four matches played.
