Shankar Sampingiraj signs for RoundGlass Punjab FC on a multi-year deal

I-League club RoundGlass Punjab FC have roped in Shankar Sampingiraj from Chennai City FC on a two-year deal.
“DONE DEAL! Our first signing of the season! Chennai City holding midfielder, Shankar Sampingiraj joins RoundGlass Punjab FC on a 2-year-deal! Delighted to have him on board!” the club’s social media caption read.
Shankar Sampingiraj made his debut for HAL in 2010 and moved to Pailan Arrows (currently known as Indian Arrows) in 2011. In 2013, he joined DSK Shivajians for a short loan stint and scored a goal for the club in six appearances.
Shankar joined Bengaluru FC in 2013 and played 19 matches for the Bengaluru-based club. He also has a couple of goals to his name, which he scored for Bengaluru FC. The 26-year-old was loaned out to Kerala Blasters FC in 2015 and made three appearances in the Indian Super League back then.
In 2017, he signed a contract with ATK and played 11 matches for them. He also played four matches each for Pune City FC & Hyderabad FC in the ISL. Last season, he represented I-League outfit Chennai City FC and will now join the RoundGlass Punjab FC in the upcoming edition of the I-League.
How did Shankar Sampingiraj fare for Chennai City FC in I-League 2020/21?
Shankar Sampingiraj played 11 matches for the Chennai-based club last season. He played 10 matches as a center-back and one match as a defensive midfielder. The Karnataka-born player was booked thrice last season but provided his team with one crucial assist.
His only assist came in a winning cause against NEROCA FC on 9th February. He assisted to the club’s second goal, which was converted by Denni Avdic to give his side a 2-0 lead in the game. Chennai City FC won the match 2-1.
The 29-year-old also captained the side once against Mohammedan SC last season.
