The dust has yet to settle on John Cena selling out to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at Elimination Chamber to orchestrate a diabolical beatdown on Cody Rhodes. Rock and Cena were joined by rapper Travis Scott, who also got his hands dirty on the Undisputed WWE Champion. The closing angle of the Toronto-hosted WWE PLE has the entire world talking, let alone Shannon Sharpe.

The former football tight end joined ESPN‘s First Take this morning to lend his two cents. Sharpe didn’t hold back and dumped on John Cena for stooping to the lows he did. Unc claimed that the 47-year-old actor ought to be ashamed of himself. Not only that, the Denver Broncos alum further proposed a tag team showdown where he’d like to be on Rhodes’ side.

Shannon, hoping to have Cody on board, called out Cena and Fein artist Scott to face them at one of the upcoming SummerSlam events. The Chicagoan declared that he and Rhodes will make the Ricky Stanicky star pay for his deeds. Also on air was Stephen A. Smith, who instead justified John’s betrayal and his unholy alliance with The Rock.

Man John Cena ought to be ashamed of himself, he waited all this time to become a heel, man you know what, ay Cody, me and you against John Cena and Travis Scott…

Smith said that The Great One has always been his type of guy. The renowned NBA analyst even admitted to having dreamt of managing Dwayne Johnson in WWE, taking inspiration for that role from the likes of Bobby Heenan and Paul Heyman.

John Cena breaks silence after industry-changing swerve at Elimination Chamber

The 16-time World Champion is following up on his unceremonious exploits at the Elimination Chamber. John Cena posted that iconic scene from the Christopher Nolan-directed 2008 film The Dark Knight where Harvey Dent uttered, “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

Since John’s shocking turn on Cody Rhodes, a clip of Cena’s interview with Chris Van Vliet is making the rounds. In it, The Franchise Player revealed that he’d heard rumblings of WWE letting him ditch his babyface gimmick in 2012. At the time, he was feuding with The Rock.

However, things didn’t materialize as the company wasn’t ready to miss out on the benefits it was reaping from his appeal among the fanbase. The Cenation Leader explained that a heel isn’t someone who just dresses differently. In fact, if he were to go that route, he’d detest every value he once stood for, Cena explained.

To lean into it, Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect was willing to make fewer appearances, be untrustworthy, and give up on things, which he hadn’t done since 2003. Cena told WWE to not put out his merch for people to buy it, cancel his Make-A-Wish program, etc., to make his heel run work, which couldn’t see the light of day back then.
