Over the years, Shaquille O’Neal has always remembered what his mother told him: to be grateful for what he has and to help those in need.

The four-time NBA champion has adhered to that advice to this day, as he continues to don the role of ‘Santa Claus’ whenever he can. The art of giving has helped him focus on building his own wealth, which has enabled him to do for others.

O’Neal started the trend right from when he first earned millions from the NBA. Now, as someone who has amassed half a billion in net worth, the superstar continues to do whatever he can. He may have courted controversy on some of his attempts to bring a smile to the faces of people, but otherwise, the Big Aristotle has been a model for other professional athletes to follow.

I found out about him through jealousy. I thought I was the tallest, handsomest cop in the world… It’s commendable that a kid wants to be an officer. I love cops.

Shaquille O’Neal told CBS

The NBA great was referring to Jordan Wilmore, whom he found out about through television. It so happens that the latter is an aspiring police recruit who failed the state peace officer exam by one point, scoring a 69 instead of the required 70.

The ‘tall and handsome’ part is what took Shaquille O’Neal by surprise, as Wilmore stands at 7′ 3″, which could make him one of the tallest police officers should he pass the test.

For someone standing that tall and with a physique that closely matches the most dominant center in the history of the NBA, it was normal for basketball conversations to happen.

The 24-year-old Jordan Wilmore did try his hand at the sport. However, he quickly realized that his true calling was in law enforcement, which prompted him to try to become a cop.

I wanted to just let him know, he has my full support. I’m going to be on you, brother, make sure you’re getting it done

Shaquille O’Neal said

The Diesel has a special affinity for law enforcement officers and has several law enforcement titles to himself. Knowing that someone, who was this tall, wanted to be a cop this bad, he had to jump in.

The narrator reveals that Shaquille O’Neal offered to pay Jordan Wilmore’s expenses for the next five months, so that the young man can focus on passing the exam and becoming a police officer.

7′ 3″ cop prospect does not want NBA’s millions

Shaquille O’Neal came to know about Jordan Wilmore’s attempt to become a police officer when he watched a segment of Steve Hartman‘s show on CBS.

There, the host asked the Texas native if the NBA came calling with a million dollars, would he choose to go, or stay in Texas and continue in his pursuit of being a cop.

Stay here.

Jordan Wilmore replied

Hartman asked him to think about his answer again, as most young men in the world are instantly drawn by the millions, along with the glamor and glitz of the NBA. However, Gilmore stuck to his answer and reiterated that he wants to stay and help those in Kemah, Texas, where he wants to become a police officer.

This dedication is what drew Shaquille O’Neal to fly out to the state before the NBA season began. He has now managed to get another big man on track to achieve his goal of becoming a law enforcement officer.
